Die App
Tachwire reads data from your car through an OBD adapter and shows it on your iPhone and in CarPlay. It asks the car’s control units for readings; it does not program or code them. Tachwire is an independent app, made by one developer. It is not affiliated with, endorsed or sponsored by BMW AG or any other carmaker, including the makers of the cars it recognises, nor by Apple Inc. or Dragy. Make and model names are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which cars the app works with.
Die Straße geht vor
Use the app only where it is safe and legal to do so, and do not handle the phone while driving. Readings, warnings, and camera and zone alerts are aids, not a safety system: they can be late, wrong or missing. Road signs and the law apply, whatever the app shows or says.
Camera alerts remind you of camera positions from official and open sources, and zone alerts of where a low-emission, restricted-traffic or danger zone begins; whether your car may enter a zone is for you to check. Whether such alerts are allowed depends on where you drive, and that is your responsibility. The app keeps them silent in countries where we know they are not allowed.
Ihr Auto und der Adapter
You connect an adapter to your car at your own risk. Follow the adapter maker’s instructions, and unplug it if the car behaves unusually. Track use and measurements such as acceleration runs are for private use on closed roads or tracks, never on public roads.
Das Sprachmodell
Spoken warnings are generated on your phone by Supertonic 3, a model by Supertone Inc., licensed under the BigScience OpenRAIL-M License; in Chinese, the iPhone’s own voice speaks them instead. The app contains a modified version of the model: the weights are quantised and some layers rewritten, as its modification notice says.
The model’s licence requires its use restrictions to be part of our agreement with you. They are: by using Tachwire you agree not to use the model, or the app’s voice, in any of the ways below. This section is an enforceable part of these terms.
You agree not to use the Model or Derivatives of the Model:

- (c) To generate or disseminate verifiably false information and/or content with the purpose of harming others;
- (d) To generate or disseminate personal identifiable information that can be used to harm an individual;
- (e) To generate or disseminate information and/or content (e.g. images, code, posts, articles), and place the information and/or content in any context (e.g. bot generating tweets) without expressly and intelligibly disclaiming that the information and/or content is machine generated;
- (f) To defame, disparage or otherwise harass others;
- (g) To impersonate or attempt to impersonate (e.g. deepfakes) others without their consent;
- (h) For fully automated decision making that adversely impacts an individual’s legal rights or otherwise creates or modifies a binding, enforceable obligation;

- (j) To exploit any of the vulnerabilities of a specific group of persons based on their age, social, physical or mental characteristics, in order to materially distort the behavior of a person pertaining to that group in a manner that causes or is likely to cause that person or another person physical or psychological harm;
- (k) For any use intended to or which has the effect of discriminating against individuals or groups based on legally protected characteristics or categories;
- (l) To provide medical advice and medical results interpretation;
- (m) To generate or disseminate information for the purpose to be used for administration of justice, law enforcement, immigration or asylum processes, such as predicting an individual will commit fraud/crime commitment (e.g. by text profiling, drawing causal relationships between assertions made in documents, indiscriminate and arbitrarily-targeted use).
