Plug a Bluetooth LE OBD adapter into the port under the dashboard on the driver’s side, pick it in Tachwire, connect CarPlay and drive. Tachwire identifies the car from its own answers.

Most cars built from 2008 on speak CAN on the OBD port and get the standard readings — revs, speed, coolant and intake temperature, and more where the car reports it — and everything that doesn’t depend on the make: tiles, warnings, laps and runs. BMW gives the most: the G-series and F-series are recognised from the VIN; the E-series and older are not. MINI F54–F60 (2014–2024) are recognised too, and the John Cooper Works Clubman (F54) is confirmed on its drives. Audi A3 (8Y) and Mazda3 (BP) are confirmed by drives as well. Other Audi and Mazda models, and Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Ford, Toyota, Lexus, RAM, Dodge, Jeep, Chrysler, Land Rover, Jaguar, Volkswagen, Škoda, SEAT / CUPRA, Lamborghini, Bentley and Honda, get trial profiles: the app asks them, or some of their models, for more than the standard set, and a drive log from one of them is what confirms it. Standard OBD never carries what lives in the carmaker’s own units, like oil pressure or the gearbox. The cars page shows it make by make.

The app looks only for Bluetooth LE adapters. Driven on: OBDLink CX (the fastest), the vLinkers and others — the Adapters page lists every one with its measured speed. Not checked yet: OBDLink MX+ and ELM327 BLE clones, which vary from one to the next. Classic Bluetooth and Wi-Fi adapters cannot connect to an iPhone. Plug the adapter in, turn the ignition on and connect CarPlay; the Adapter screen, under More → Car and adapter, also has a Check button that tries the adapter without CarPlay.

Tachwire talks to the car only while CarPlay is connected: without CarPlay it leaves the adapter alone. With CarPlay on, a car in Park with the engine off keeps quiet itself — that is normal. Driving and still nothing? Send that drive (below).

Tachwire restarts the connection automatically when readings stop. If it keeps happening, send that drive.

Tell us which one, which car and adapter, and send that drive. That is how a charge-air tile reading the wrong sensor, a diesel that took the day of its last battery change for its gear, and a dozen smaller things were found.

Power counts only where the app knows your own car’s friction. It learns it from your drives on warm oil (95 °C and above), in bands of 500 rpm, and a band counts once two pulls agree. Elsewhere the figure is dimmed and stays out of peaks and records. Calibration of this car, on the Car screen, shows how far it has got.

Your car didn’t report that value, or the adapter cut a long reading short (the tile says which). Empty is on purpose: we don’t fill it with a guess.

On the phone, under More → Screen in the car: the pages, the tiles and their sizes, or a ready-made layout from the Gallery. Parked, you can also move tiles on the car’s screen itself. The grid follows your car’s display, so a layout made on a larger screen is fitted to a smaller one.

The watch mirrors the CarPlay-size card, and the app can’t remove it from the watch alone. Turn it off in the Watch app → Smart Stack / Live Activities.

In the TestFlight builds only, for now; the App Store version doesn’t offer it yet. There, pair it under More → Car and adapter → Performance meter. With a good fix its speed is used wherever it agrees with the car’s, and its runs are timed by satellite speed. The DRG70 has been tested; the DRG70-C and Pro have not yet. Close the Dragy app first: a Dragy talks to one app at a time.

Set the line yourself: under More → Tracks choose “Set the line on the map”, or press “Start/finish line here” as you cross it, on the phone or on the car’s screen. Laps are then timed at that line whenever you are within 3 km of it. Tell us the track’s name at support@tachwire.app and we’ll look at adding it to the list.

Check three things. They are off until you turn them on under More → Road cameras. They speak in Spain, Portugal, Italy, Poland, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, Czechia, Bulgaria, Norway, Cyprus, Malaysia and Russia, and in France only for danger zones and low-emission zones; in Germany, Switzerland and Turkey the law forbids them. And they need location for the whole drive: with “While Using”, iOS stops it when Tachwire isn’t on the car’s or the phone’s screen, so choose “The whole drive” under More → Location.

No. Each country’s list is downloaded whole and matched on the phone; the server only sees which country’s list is fetched. Once the list is on the phone, alerts work with no signal too.

A list can miss a new camera or keep one that has gone. Write to support@tachwire.app with the road, the place and your direction of travel. The road signs are what count.

More → Help the project, then By hand or Automatically. By hand, the Car tab offers to send a finished drive; automatically, it is sent over Wi-Fi. Either way you get a short code: include it in your email to support@tachwire.app. The route is cut out before sending; only laps on a track keep their positions.

Four things, each with its own switch under More → Help the project. Drives, only if you turn helping on: the car’s answers and its VIN, the adapter’s events, the app build and your CarPlay screen size, encrypted, with the route cut out (only laps on a track keep their positions) and kept for 30 days — on the server and as the developer’s downloaded copy; anonymised excerpts with no VIN or coordinates may be kept longer to test the app. Crash reports, on until you turn them off: where in the code the app failed, the iPhone model and the iOS and app versions — nothing about the car or the drive. And how you use the app — which screens you open, where taps do nothing — only if you tap Share when the app asks. And for notifications, only if you turn them on: the token Apple issues for this phone, the app’s language and build and, for replies about your logs, the codes of the logs you sent. Install the App Store version over the TestFlight one. It is the same app, so everything stays on the phone: your drives and their history, thresholds and calibration. Leaving TestFlight is optional.

No. Tachwire reads live values while you drive. It does not read or clear fault codes, code options or reset services: use a diagnostic app for that.
